The Prana Vayus

  • The Prana Vayus are the most accessible part of the Pranic body.
  •  Asana practice is used to help shape the Vayus.
  • Each pose category helps to mobilize a specific Vayu. Extension poses do not work specifically on a Vayu.
  • Apana Vayu located in the pelvic area moves energy downwards and is accessed through Forward Folds. It helps you release and ground. This is your primary Lunar Force.
  • Samana Vayu located in the abdomen balances energy at the navel and is accessed through Twisting. It helps you to assimilate food, thoughts and life experiences and creates internal balance.
  • Pran Vayu located in the chest area moves energy from the outside to the inside and is accessed through Backbends. It helps you to internalize your mind and also keeps you vitalized. This is your primary Solar Force.
  • Udana Vayu located in the throat moves energy upwards and is accessed through Inversions. It inspires you to grow spiritually and is also responsible for moving awakened Prana (Kundalini) up through the center channel, called Sushumna.
